A lot of people get jealous when I tell them, that I am an exchange student, because I’ll see the world. Being an exchange student is so much more than seeing the world! I do agree that it is fun, but it is the hardest thing I have done to myself in my entire life!
Try to imagine yourself in a new place where you don’t know anyone, and you might have troubles with the language as well, and you are so nervous and scared! Can you imagine how hard it is? Do you know how exhausted and tired you would be, because you would have to focus every single moment to make sure you got everything right?

What would you do if people couldn’t understand you, or if you didn’t know how to express yourself? You just can’t start talking in your native language – no one would be able to understand you! Do you know how that feels? It feels horrible, and you feel really stupid, and yes you might be afraid to talk in the future!
Just think about how hard it is for an exchange student to be an exchange student!
Being an exchange student is amazing, and definitely one of the best, if not the best, decisions I have taken. I am not only developing academic skills but personal skills as well. I am way more mature, happy, thankful, responsible…
I know what borders are – I crossed my own. I know what being desperate is – I left everything, and I arrived, alone, in a whole new, different place. I know what true friends are – I had mine when I needed it the most!
As an exchange student you don’t really know what you’ll get, and you don’t really know how your future looks like! You can’t choose your host family, nor the school or city. You can’t decide the rules… you just follow..

Do you know how it feels to hug your parents for the last time in 10 months – almost one year! You may not feel or know how important your mom and dad are before you actually move away from them for a long time!
Do you know how hard it is to change your natural lifestyle out with a new, different lifestyle! It is the hardest thing ever… We just don’t show it, nor say anything because we won’t be rude!
It is really hard to keep your mouth shut when you really want to say your opinion! It is harder than it looks like! Do you know what cultures are? I know what cultures are – I have experienced more than one culture on my own body!
If you think that an exchange student’s life seems to be easy… then I think, you should shut your mouth, and realize how hard it really is!

Couldn't have said it better! It is the pure truth! :)
